Hospital Competes in National Pink Glove Dance Competition for a Chance to Win $10,000 to Provide Free Mammograms
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Oct. 3, 2011 – Albemarle Health is one of 135 hospitals participating in the national Pink Glove Dance competition that helps raise breast cancer awareness. The winner of the competition will receive $10,000 to provide free mammograms to underinsured women. The competition was launched in 2009 to raise breast cancer awareness and has since inspired countless pink glove dance videos and events around the world.
“The Pink Glove Dance competition not only allows us to help promote breast cancer awareness, but also gives us the opportunity to provide women with mammograms who otherwise may not have access to the screening,” said Sharon Tanner, chief executive officer of Albemarle Health.
The video features several Albemarle Health employees, dancing in pink gloves. If the hospital is selected as the winner, the prize money will go towards providing 200 free mammograms to women in the community without insurance.
