When it comes to quality, Albemarle Hospital is showing that you don’t have to leave the area to get extraordinary care. From its recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, to outranking several national quality measures, Albemarle Hospital is demonstrating that patients receive the best quality care possible.

Federal regulation requires all hospitals that receive payment from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to survey their patients and report results to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In the latest reporting period, patients ranked Albemarle Hospital “Best Possible Hospital” more often than the national benchmark and more often than the national benchmark and more often than the average of hospitals in North Carolina. These scores are reported by the HCAHPS survey and represent the percentage of patients who rated Albemarle Hospital as a 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale.

In 2012, Albemarle Hospital also outranked the national average and North Carolina averages in the following:

  • Physician and nurse communication with patients
  • Staff responsiveness
  • Pain management and explanation of medications
  • Cleanliness of hospital rooms and bathrooms
  • Patient information for discharge

Other important achievements in 2012 quality measures include:

  • Zero medication errors of harm
  • Zero cases of ventilator-associated pneumonia
  • 100 percent best care score for heart attack patients
  • 99 percent hand-hygiene compliance
  • Patient information for discharge

Also, Albemarle Hospital has been recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The hospital earned the ACR accreditation for offering the highest level of breast imaging quality and radiation safety.
