ALBEMARLE HOSPITAL EARNS BREAST IMAGING CENTER OF EXCELLENCE DESIGNATION
Albemarle Health's Albemarle Hospital was recently recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The hospital earned the ACR Gold Standard of Accreditation, the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety, in three separate categories: mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy [through the American College of Surgeons (ACS)], and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
"We're proud to be a part of this elite group of hospitals," said Sharon Tanner, president of Albemarle Health. "We're committed to delivering the highest quality care not only in women's health, but also in all of the services and programs we provide."
Accreditation is earned through a strict and highly monitored set of parameters. Physicians and staff must take ongoing education courses developed by the ACR, and must perform a pre-determined number of procedures for the service. At Albemarle Hospital, all breast imaging staff and equipment are certified under the ACR accreditation.
"As physicians providing breast care, it is important to know our patients are getting the best breast imaging possible to make sure they get an early and accurate diagnosis," said Antonio Ruiz, M.D., a surgeon with Carolina Surgical Care and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS). "We have always felt that George Jordan, D.O., Eastern Radiologists, Inc. (Albemarle Hospital's radiology practice), and the radiology technologists at Albemarle Hospital have been committed to excellence in breast imaging. This award supports what we have known to be true."
Albemarle Health has a wide range of sophisticated breast health services, from digital mammography and breast MRI to stereotactic breast biopsy and breast specific gamma imaging (BSGI).
