ALBEMARLE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION'S ELIZABETH CITY
COMMUNITY CARE CLINIC NOW OPEN IN NEW LOCATION

11.20.07

Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City

Care for the region's indigent, uninsured, and underinsured residents will have a new address October 15, when the Albemarle Hospital Foundation's Elizabeth City Community Care Clinic moves into its new home in the old Fleet Reserve Association building, off Highway 17. The clinic purchased the building, at 918 Greenleaf Street, in May, and began renovations in late summer.

The new location allows the clinic to nearly triple its square footage for treatment and programs inside the building, as well as provide more parking spaces and easier handicap access outside of the facility. The Community Care Clinic will continue to offer the same programs and services, including primary care, prescription assistance program, and dispensing pharmacy (for non-narcotic drugs) currently available to the more than 25,000 indigent, uninsured, and underinsured residents of the Albemarle area.

"We're very excited about the move," said Phil Donahue, Executive Director of the Albemarle Hospital Foundation. "The new building gives us the capacity to help a great many more patients, and allows us to offer more patient privacy and office space for our staff."

The new Community Care Clinic will increase in size from 980 square feet to nearly 3,500 square feet. The new Greenleaf Street location features a larger patient registration area; a spacious waiting area; five private prescription assistance program rooms; two offices for nurses and physicians; two exam rooms for primary care visits; an enlarged dispensing pharmacy; and a conference room.

"When we opened the original Community Care Clinic location in Elizabeth City in 2004, we knew there was a need for our services and programs," Donahue said. "We realized soon after, however, that we would outgrow that location in a short time. The new building is located in a high-traffic area that can be easily reached, and it's large enough to allow us to treat more patients, and help more people. We'll continue to offer the same services; we're open the same hours ... in a bigger facility, with a little more room to operate - and a little more room to grow."

The Community Care Clinic, through a partnership with Chowan Hospital, also provides free primary care, prescription assistance programs, and a dispensing pharmacy to the residents of Chowan, Gates, and Perquimans counties at the Community Care Clinic in Tyner.

If you have any questions about the Community Care Clinics, please contact the Albemarle Hospital Foundation, at extension 4072.
