VOLUNTEERS BRING HIGH TECH
PATIENT TRANSPORTATION TO ALBEMARLE HEALTH
The
latest in patient transportation is here at Albemarle Health’s
Albemarle Hospital, in the form of Transcarts and Staxis,
purchased by the Albemarle Hospital Volunteers, Inc.
Transcarts combine the functions of two pieces of equipment
– a wheelchair and utility cart – into one large,
hard-plastic transportation vehicle. Staff can easily move
the patient and their belongings on one vehicle, with no
inconvenience to our patients. Transcarts are easy to push,
and because of their size and design, they rarely need to
be replaced. The Volunteers are purchasing five Transcarts
– one for each floor.
Staxis are “nestable” wheelchairs that can
stack in their own specially designed rack; not unlike shopping
carts at a grocery store. They are made of sturdy metal,
and look sleek – a bonus for patients. The Volunteers
will purchase 12 Staxis for the Main Lobby Registration
Area.
“These are wonderful products, which in addition
to being very functional, they look great,” said Anita
Lamothe, Director of Volunteer Services. “The patients
love them, and the staff and volunteers who have used them
enjoy the fact they’re easy to use, and the patients’
belongings can easily fit on the Transcarts. This is the
future of patient transportation, and we’re thrilled
to bring it to Albemarle Hospital.”
