ALBEMARLE HOSPITAL’S SLEEP CENTER NOW OPEN
INSIDE WESLEY HOSPITALITY HOUSE

Albemarle Health’s Albemarle Hospital celebrated the official opening of its new, expanded Sleep Center during an open house Thursday, September 20, at the center’s new location inside the Wesley Hospitality House. The Sleep Center’s move to the Wesley Hospitality House allowed the facility to double its capacity.

Albemarle Health’s Sleep Center helps diagnose a variety of disorders in patients as they sleep. Some common sleep disorders include sleep apnea, where breathing is interrupted during sleep; insomnia; and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS).

“This move is a huge benefit to our patients,” said Clara Lohse, RCP, RRT
Respiratory Manager at Albemarle Hospital, and head of the Sleep Center. “We now have a larger area for our patients, and we’ve doubled the number of beds to a total of four. The Wesley House is a secure, quiet facility, and each patient can now take advantage of a more ‘hotel-like’ room, with their own private bathroom and shower.”

Although many people may feel tired throughout the day, they may not know they suffer from a sleep disorder. Some common side affects of sleep disorders include feeling tired throughout the day, problem snoring, and irritability.

A patient must be referred to the Sleep Center by a physician. Patients’ body functions are monitored electronically, and they are observed as they sleep. Our fully trained and experienced sleep technicians record brain waves and sleep patterns, and then prepare a complete report for the patient’s physician.
